The Mandalorian and Grogu’s release is quickly approaching, and creator Jon Favreau revealed some exciting new information regarding the upcoming film.

At the Star Wars: Most Wanted event, Favreau revealed more details regarding The Mandalorian and Grogu. He said that they were almost done with the film. The director promised that he and the creative team would do everything in their power to make sure that the movie would be one that is worth going to theaters for.

According to Favreau, The Mandalorian and Grogu really upped the ante for the Star Wars franchise. From visuals and aspect ratios to storylines and character development, everything is going to be bigger than ever. He added that he knows that going out to see a movie could be a hassle, so he wanted to raise the bar and make sure that the experience would be enjoyable for everyone.

We gotta up our game now for the movie theater, and that means taller aspect ratios for IMAX, building sets that take full advantage of. That making the visual effects of, of, of the quality and caliber that, you know, that we have to notch everything up and then the storytelling as well.

We want to take you on an adventure, and that adventure has to fill up the screen and has to be something where people at this moment in time when so much is competing for your attention, that you’re gonna stop what you’re doing and you’re gonna go to a movie theater, and you’re gonna sit down in that movie theater, and you’re not gonna be able to pause it and you’re not gonna be able to eat the food out of your refrigerator, and you have to go there and, and you have to have such a good experience that you say.

When asked for new information about The Mandalorian and Grogu, Favreau jokingly said that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker’s father. However, he did reveal a few specific non-spoiler details about the spinoff. He stated that Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) is using the same model of ship, Grogu has “leveled up,” and that the fan-dubbed Baby Yoda is a cross between a Jedi and a Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian and Grogu will follow the adventures of the titular characters as they help the New Republic in their fight against the Imperial warlords. The film was written by Favreau, Dave Filoni, and George Lucas. It will also star Sigourney Weaver (Colonel Ward), Jeremy Allen White (Rotta the Hutt), Steve Blum (Zeb Orrelios), and Jonny Coyne (Imperial Warlord Janu Coin) alongside Pascal.

The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres in theaters on May 22, 2026.
