Steam is home to a huge amount of free games, and PC gamers can now grab an underrated open-world Steam RPG via Fanatical. It’s easy enough to claim, but there are a few extra steps you’ll have to do. I should also note you don’t forever to grab this freebie, so time is very much of the essence.
There’s something about the idea of being a pirate that really is exciting, navigating dangerous waters and digging up mythical treasures in the Caribbean and beyond. Whilst watching the likes of Jack Sparrow et Al. is great in its own right, playing as a swashbuckling rogue in video games is definitely the way to go.
Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remains probably the best example of this (we’re still keeping our fingers crossed for the long-rumored remake), but other classics like Sid Meier’s Pirates! and Sea of Thieves are brilliant examples of the genre that are still well worth exploring to this day.
Outside of those juggernauts, there is another, more underrated pirate RPG from a few years back that’s a great bet, and you can pick it up and keep it for free if you move quickly.
Over on Reddit, an eagle-eyed user noticed that the very solid pirate-focused RPG Tempest is available to pick up for free and keep forever, if you follow a few different steps on the website Fanatical.
Here is what you’ll need to do to secure your free game
That’s pretty much all there is to it, though the website has asked players to get in touch if they run into difficulties with the above process.
Happily, Tempest is a really solid genre entry that allows players to explore its open-world as they see fit. There are hundreds of quests to complete, alongside fortresses to attack, ships to customize, other players to challenge and even the ability to take on some legendary oceanic monsters.
If you’re not sure whether it has the chops to keep up with expectations, the reviews for the game are also very solid, with players underlining the myriad gameplay elements as particularly impressive. Across over 2,500 reviews, the game is currently sitting on a Mostly Positive rating, with complimentary feedback still coming in regularly.
If it does end up being a hit in your household, there is also a ton of additional content that has been released over the years, all of which is available at a very reasonable cost. You can always check back with us for more Steam free games.
